To convert food waste into high-value molecules, a dedicated process hall was built, the so-called “grey hall”, at the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP). Funding was provided by the BBI-JU-Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and BBEPP. In this grey hall, separated from the other process halls, we have built dedicated pilot equipment for the WASTE2FUNC Project processes enabling us to pre-treat and convert food waste to WASTE2FUNC biochemicals. The grey hall was already successfully used for two WASTE2FUNC scale-up runs in the past weeks.
